At the heart of Scotland's constitutional debate, energy has the potential to make a critical impact on the growth of our economy and remains a key challenge to the Scottish Government. This paper summarises the current nature of the Scottish energy sector, the challenges facing Scotland as we progress to a green transition and examines the effects that energy market reform and the establishment of a new Scottish Energy Regulator could have.

A recent UK government paper suggests that Scotland will have the lowest cost energy in Europe, whilst in reality the opposite is true. This publication examines the potential impact of nodal and zonal pricing models, grid resilience, energy storage, and the diversity of the generation technology mix with a view to improving Scotland's economic welfare, security of supply and reducing energy costs to the consumer.
